Ceramic vs Zirconium Flap Discs: Choosing a 115mm Disc for Your Workshop

Choosing between ceramic and zirconium flap discs starts with the job, your grinder and the finish you want. Universal Abrasives offers both types in 115mm, with P40, P60, P80 and P120 grit options.

When to consider a ceramic flap disc

Our Ceramic Flap Disc 115mm is part of the Premium Range. It is designed for fast stock removal, grinding, weld removal, deburring and surface finishing in professional fabrication and engineering. It is the option to consider when demanding grinding work calls for aggressive cutting performance.

When to consider a zirconium flap disc

Our Zirconium Flap Disc 115mm is part of the Budget Range. It is designed for medium-duty stock removal, weld blending, deburring and surface preparation. Its product specification recommends 115mm angle grinders rated below 1000 watts, making grinder suitability an important part of the choice.

Choose the grit for your task

Neither abrasive type replaces choosing the right grit. Start by identifying whether you need heavier material removal, weld blending or a finer finish, then select the grit appropriate to that task. Both products are available in P40, P60, P80 and P120 and are supplied in packs of 10.

Check suitability before ordering

Check the disc’s suitability for your material and your grinder’s requirements, including the disc’s marked maximum operating speed. Follow the disc and grinder manufacturers’ instructions.
